Community Question: Writing Curriculum Ideas

Community Question is a category inspired by you. The following question is from Lisa M.

“I’ve been asked to teach a writing class next year. My degree is in Secondary Ed. English and I’ve been homeschooling for almost ten years, but this class will be tricky since it includes a mix of 9th-11th grade boys and girls with skills and abilities all over the map. The goal is confidence in essay writing, but also, creative writing, poetry and peer review.

The current plan is to meet in my home once a week. My general style of writing leans toward the BraveWriter approach, the curriculum I’ve used with my own daughter. However, I’m not sure how to implement it in a structured, weekly setting. I am also looking at The Write Foundation’s curriculum and am welcome to any other suggestions, or programs others may have successfully taught high school students in a weekly group setting.”

Does anyone have a favorite high school level writing curriculum? Do you have any ideas how to best implement it in a co-op or weekly structured setting?
